Q: Can we request less than the $40,000 maximum grant amount?
A: Yes. There is no obligation to request the full amount. Applications will be accepted for any amount up to $40,000.
Q: How do we account for the 25 instances of service required over the past 3 years?
A: The requirement is to serve service-disabled veterans or individuals with disabilities. Eligible companions should not be included in the count. The count does not need to be unduplicated; repeat participation by the same individual counts toward the 25-instance requirement. Each instance is independent of the number of individuals served during any single session or activity.
Q: How do we count repeat clients?
A: Each session or activity involving a disabled client counts as an instance toward the 25-time requirement. For example, if a client participates in multiple sessions, each session counts. Similarly, if five people participate in one group session, that counts as five activities.
Q: Must activities be specific to the water-based activities listed in the legislation?
A: Yes. Eligible activities must involve sailing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, or surfing on state waters.
Q: Are capital expenses allowable?
A: Yes. We are not restricting capital expenses, provided you can explain how the expense ties directly to your water sports program.
Q: Can our organization use funds retroactively?
A: Yes. You may use funds for expenses incurred starting July 1, 2026, or for expenses incurred during the 12-month period starting from the date of the grant award.
Q: When will the next grant cycle be?
A: This funding was part of a supplemental budget, so we cannot guarantee future availability. If funding continues in future years, we anticipate the application period will occur around the same time of year.
Q: What are the reporting requirements?
A: Reporting will be simple and required once as a final report. The award process involves two parts: 80% of funds are awarded upon signing the grant agreement, and the remaining 20% is provided upon receipt of the final report. The report must include basic information on the number of people served, a summary of fund usage, and any available testimonials. The final report is due between October 1, 2026, and September 30, 2027. If your program extends later, you may submit the report whenever you are ready to receive the final disbursement, though a later report will delay the final payment.
Q: When will grant awards be made?
A: We are hoping to have identified the grant awardees by the end of September or early October.
